OPEN Storytelling day

Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot welcomed us for the first ever OPEN storytelling day. We were lucky enough to have acclaimed storyteller and author Adam Guillian to lead the day. A selection of children from years 3, 4 and 5 from all the open schools attended. As we arrived Adam taught us some storytelling games including Tell Me More and Wacky Words. He then told us a story about a very noisy house.
We moved onto learning an Italian folk story called Body without a Soul. This was a really challenging story and we were amazed by how well all the children worked together to learn it in such a short space of time.
After lunch the Adam showed us his bag of magical objects and the children shared the magical object they had brought. By asking careful questions the children were able to help each other to develop a completely new story about their object. They then plotted their story onto a story matrix so that they will be able to tell it at home.
Finally Adam shared another story and answered some questions before we headed home. It was an amazing day! All the adults were amazed by how well the children mixed and worked together. The behaviour was great and the storytelling was imaginative and interesting. I hope they share their stories at home and at school.
