Silence - a poem by Edward Thomasson

Silence is a thoughtful moment.
It can be what you wish,
Anything it can be

Just a thought can bring it alive.
Like a ship on gusty seas
Never too still but not too fast
As long as you try it will last

More fragile than air,
It breaks at the sound of any.
It is non-existent in cities
Yet dense in places.
Silence is all around
As long as there is no sound.

Gardening Superstars

A massive thank you to all the families, who gave up some of their weekend to support Anna, our gardener,  prepare the garden for spring. Everyone got really stuck in and the hard work is evident if you look at the garden this morning.

Mrs Bryers' soup and homemade rolls perked everyone up at lunchtime and an
extra thank you to Mick, who supports the school by providing plants and advice and Niall, who donated wood and then turned it into window frames, which he fitted into the shed.
A fantastic community effort and the sun even made an appearance! As always, the work and effort put in by Anna and the PTA to ensure the children can continue to have such valuable experiences in our garden, is greatly appreciated

New House Captains

Today we had our election for our new House Captains to take us through to the end of the year.
We are very keen to shake up the house system and are keen to hear any ideas for how to make it better.

In the meantime our new house captains are:

Sandfield:  Matilda and Samuel
Iddmead: Thea and Ava
Pudmore: Jack and Millie
Buckland: Imogen and Alyssa

Watch that caffeine!

In 5/6 today many of the children were able to see first hand how caffeine can affect the heart rate.

Image result for daphniaWe observed a Daphnia (water flea) under the digital microscope and counted its heartbeat in different solutions of water -with and without caffeine added.

Great care was taken to ensure the safety of the Daphnia (Mrs Avery had carefully researched the correct amount of caffeine to add which was comparable to a human having a glass of cola)

Although it was quite tricky to count the heartbeats, the children could quite clearly see the effect of caffeine - which was to significantly increase the heartbeat.

Willowcroft Rugby

Some of our Year 5/6 children took part in the Willowcroft Rugby Tournament earlier today. The children demonstrated fantastic core sporting values (respect, sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline and enjoyment) as well as some excellent skills!

A big 'Thank You!' to Coach James from Rugbytots for giving up his time to support the team and the event.

Ice Hockey

Congratulations to our Winter Olympics Writing winners! They had a fantastic time watching
Oxford City beat Cardiff 8-1!

Football Festival

On Thursday, Miss Lee took two teams of Y3/4 footballers to the Wallingford Partnership Festival. It was an exciting event! Both Cholsey teams made it into the semi-final matches and came joint 3rd overall - another amazing result for 'Team Cholsey' this week.

Well done to all who took part!

Gala Fun

On Monday, we took three teams to a friendly swimming gala at the Oratory Prep School. This was the first time we had taken children as young as Year 4 to a gala and was a fantastic experience for all. Overall we scored 93 points - what an amazing score!

Well done to everyone who took part.

Beauty and the Beast came to visit!

We had a lovely surprise this morning, when M&M Theatre Company had a last minute cancellation and as they were in the area, came to put on the production of Beauty and the Beast...free of charge!!!

The cheering and laughing coming from the hall were testament to the enjoyment the audience were experiencing. Key Stage 1 children wrote some lovely reviews of the show. Thank you to Mrs Potter and Mrs Crickmore for their contribution with the dancing!

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is nearly upon us and today children in KS1 were able to question our expert Miss Ho all about it.

This year it's the Year of the Dog which means people born in 2018, 2006, 1994, 1982, 1970 and 1958 are all ‘dogs’

Christingle Service

There was joyful music from the Wind Band, beautiful singing from the choir, readings, poems and prayers, candles lit on oranges and sweets eaten. It was Christingle! Thank you to Mrs Nathanielsz and Mrs Thomasson for preparing everything, Mrs Parr for the choir and Ms Atkins for the music.
