Arrrrrrgh you ready to be a pirate?

The children in 3/4 have thoroughly enjoyed their new topic of 'Pirates' this term. Last Thursday, we had a 'Pirate Day' which involved pirate themed maths puzzles, pirate themed writing, making wooden spoon pirate puppets and there was even some time for dressing up and role play!

We are so pleased with the work produced by the children during this new topic.

Golden Ticket Headteacher

We had a new member join the senior leadership team this morning, when our Golden Ticket winner from Penguin Class arrived ready for work. After conducting a learning walk, it was agreed that there we’re a lot of happy children in the classes.

Christmas House Quiz

In this morning's assembly, we held a hilarious Christmas house challenge. The house captains had to listen to some brilliant video of some of our Foundation children describing Christmas objects and places. Points were up for grabs and we were so impressed with the fantastic descriptions by the Foundation children - not easy when you can't say the name of the thing you are describing!
It was a tie for first place between Sandfield and Buckland - we will be announcing which house has won the Autumn house cup in Friday's assembly.

Golden Ticket Performers

We all benefited from the  Golden Ticket stall from the Christmas Fete today, as one of the prizes was to perform in assembly and what an amazing performance it was!!!

Christmas Around the World

My Mummy came in to visit us to tell the children about the decorations we have on our tree. They all mean something special. We have lots of people from different countries in our house and so we have made up lots of our own traditions. My Mummy also made some salt dough decorations for all my friends to take home.

Idalina Year 1 Flamingo

Babushka

We all thoroughly enjoyed the KS1 performance of Babushka this week and are very proud of the children for their amazing performances.

Yr5 Football Festival

Cranford House Football Festival

A small group of Year 5 pupils were invited to a football event at Cranford House School last Friday. They all had a brilliant time playing with and against the other schools, and there were some fantastic performances from all of them. Jake showed excellent skills as a goalkeeper, making some spectacular saves. Dylan received a medal for best dribbler and Jun scored an amazing goal at long range. Theo and Edward showed real pace on the ball and racked up 10 goals between them. Sam lead his players brilliantly, and Charlotte made some wonderful long range passes. Romilly, Yolanda and Mweene all showed great determination and made some textbook tackles against the opposition. Well done to all!

Thaumatropes

This week King Cobra class have been making thaumatropes. What are they I hear you say. Well, they are Victorian toys using optical illusions. There is an image on each side of the disc, which when spun around , your brain merges the two images. Really cool!

Year 5&6 Classification

In Classification this term, the children have been working like scientists, carefully observing specimens, noting their specific features and creating their own classification keys. They should all now be experts on seashells from Kilvrough!

OPEN Taekwondo

On Tuesday, five children from LKS2 took part in the first ever OPEN Taekwondo training event. Willowcroft School are lucky enough to have a National Taekwondo champion working in their school and invited us over to learn some new skills and show them off. The children spent the afternoon learning these new skills and techniques and were then able to perform them to their parents at an evening show. A HUGE thank you to Sarah Nathanielsz for supervising the children during the event! What a fantastic new event to our OPEN PE calendar.

Bootstrap Bill Turner visits 3/4

Year 3/4 are currently learning about persuasive writing and they have been given the task of writing persuasive adverts to recruit new pirates for Captain Jack Sparrow's crew. To help them learn about how fantastic pirate life is, Bootstrap Bill decided to drop by their lesson to tell them all about it! He has made sure the children are focused on their task and hopes to have some new crew mates soon.

Elf recommendations

Buddy the Christmas Elf gave one of the children in Jaguar class a fantastic book recommendation this morning. Sadly, the cup of tea he had made had gone cold during the night, but she thoroughly enjoyed the book!

Art Club

In art club, the children are discovering the art of repeating patterns. They have got as far as checking if their pattern repeats. Look at how careful they're being!

Yum Yum!

Not only do King Cobras excel at dough making but here they are tasting their produce. They evaluated their work carefully and realised that the Victorian recipe we followed had too much salt for our taste. They also began to understand just how much flavourings are needed to overcome the bread! There were some great flavour combinations from a five spice combination to feta with chilli, olives and basil to bacon, herbs and p

epper. What mature palates!

More bread !

This week King Cobra class have been making bread. They had a very sticky time kneading the dough but the results were DELICIOUS! Have a look and see.
