Finalists!

Last December, a small group of artists from KS2 began working with Mrs Hellawell on a project to submit to a global art competition run by the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation.  This is an international competition and the theme this year was Biodiversity: the web of life.

We used recycled materials, taught ourselves how to French knit (!) and made this stunning display.
We are very proud of it.
This year 4886 children entered 1800 projects, from over 50 different nations, in either individual or group age categories.
Our artists entered the 8-11 year old group category and submitted our entry on the final closing day in early February. We then had a long wait until the final today to find out how well we had done!
We all gathered for lunch together in Mrs Hellawell’s classroom (including ice lollies for pudding!) and waited to hear the results. We were astounded when our entry came up on the screen as one of the finalists for our category! Unfortunately, we didn’t win a prize but we were very pleased and proud that we had been selected in the final 10 out of so many other entries and so we celebrated my having an art afternoon together for the last time.
Our finalist’s entry can be seen on display in the library, and we hope that when you next visit you will pop by to see it!
