Year 56 DT - Mini Pavlovas

This week Year 5/6 have working on our DT skills.  The task was to create a mini pavlova – not so easy!  The children worked collaboratively to create their meringue bases and, in the process, gave their arm muscles a bit of a workout whisking up the egg whites!  Once the meringue bases were cooked they then had to whip up the cream and decorate with their chosen toppings according to their designs.  They all turned out brilliantly and the children took great care and delight over their creations.  The last part was the tasting, which was purely for evaluation purposes and not enjoyable at all…!

If any of the children would like to recreate this recipe at home, we used the BBC Food recipe which can be found here https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/user/757676/recipe/mini-pavlovas

Sports Leaders

Congratulations to our new Sports Leader team!

I was so impressed by the quality of applications this year and the enthusiasm for taking on this important role. I know that this team are going to do a fantastic job and I can’t wait to work with them.

Curriculum & Wellbeing Evening

Thank you to all who came and supported our Curriculum & Wellbeing evening last week. It was great for teachers to be able to showcase the subjects that they lead and give parents more of an insight into how we teach.

Thanks also for the very kind words left in our comments book and the emails we have received since. Here's a few examples that makes it all worthwhile :)

"I just wanted to say thank you to all the staff who organised and ran the curriculum evening yesterday - it was clear a lot of time and effort went into it. It’s great to learn more about how and what our children learn in school, but also just so nice to be invited in after the past couple of years and extra nice to have some face time with the staff. "

"I just wanted to send a quick message to say how much I enjoyed last night. We're very lucky that our children share a lot of what they do in the classroom with us at home, but it was really useful to have a proper insight and a fuller understanding of how the curriculum works.

Thank you, all of the effort that must have gone into the evening was really appreciated."

OAA - Orienteering

You might have noticed the new orienteering trail that has been placed around the school. This year, we have used some of our Sport Premium money to have the school professionally mapped out and a cross curricular trail installed. During the Autumn Term staff received training on the new scheme of work and the children can’t wait to use it! Year 3/4 are using the scheme in PE to learn their basic orienteering skills so that they can use the whole school trail in other subjects and encourage active learning. We are aiming for a competitive Ancient Egyptian quiz trail at the end of term! Here are Panther Class learning how to orientate their mini maps correctly and to follow a trail. This activity involved some maths calculations too.

Once all classes have received the training, we hope to be able to use the trail at lunchtimes and for competitions!

Imoves

Panther Class and Year 4 really enjoy their daily Imoves session. We subscribe to Imoves as part of our challenge to ensure that every child achieves their 60 active minutes per day. The short activities vary from dance fitness, seated mountain bike trails, boxercise and yoga!

Our current favourite is ‘Funky Mumbo’ (Panther Class)

Here we are at the end of our History lesson trying out some Ancient Egyptian yoga…

Newspapers

The children in Year 3/4 are learning how to be newspaper journalists. They really enjoyed looking at local newspapers and identifying the key structural features.

Panto fun!

The children all enjoyed watching the cast of M&M Productions performing Sleeping Beauty yesterday. The cast were brilliant and went to visit the younger children in their costumes before the show to reassure them. A BIG thank you to the PTA for funding this show.
