Awesome Achievements - Rosa Parks

As part of their home learning, the Year 5/6 children have been working hard on a self-directed study about an 'Awesome Achievement' from black history. Sam chose to complete his study on Rosa Parks and has put together a fantastic presentation about her 'Awesome Achievements'. It is important to remember that 'Awesome Achievements' aren't always big wins but sometimes little steps that help to make big changes over time. Great work Sam!

Awesome writing!

As well as learning all about the first moon landings, Year 5/6 have been writing some short stories based on an image of a girl running through the fields clutching an egg. Here is Joe’s short story - I love how it builds tension and is full of descriptive language. The ending is very exciting!

Winners of the BBC Radio Competition!

Well done to Mia and Phoebe M for winning Michelle Jordan's radio competition! Michelle and I absolutely loved your 'Kids News' radio show packed full of comedy, news and weather! You are both radio superstars! As a special prize for winning, when the craziness of lock down is over, Mia, Phoebe and their family will be invited into the BBC Radio Berkshire studio to help Michelle present one of her evening shows! Very exciting!

Well done to everyone that took part - your radio shows were brilliant! It was so tricky to choose a winner.

A big thank you to Michelle and her teams at BBC Radio Berkshire and Oxford for setting such an exciting challenge and for all their hard work behind the scenes!

Here are our winners...

More radio stars!

We have another radio star in Year 5/6! Joe H was on the radio last night talking to Michelle about his radio show ‘The Joe Show’. She loved how funny Joe was and thinks he would make a brilliant radio presenter in the future!

FS and KS1 Stay at Home Sports Day

Well done to all of the FS and KS1 children that took part in our 'Stay at Home Sports Day!' We are really disappointed that we couldn't host our usual exciting event, but it was lovely to see photos of so many children participating in their own home sports day instead! I was really impressed to see that some of our older children were leading activities and supporting their younger siblings too.

Here is a selection of photos and videos of our event...

Virtual Healthy Active Lifestyles week

Well done to everyone who took part in our virtual Healthy Active Lifestyles week! It wasn't our usual fun week in school filled with exciting workshops, but I was so pleased to see all the lovely photographs of our children promoting healthy and active lifestyles.

I loved how creative some of you were with your activities - some children went paddle boarding and kayaking with their household, others made fruit kebabs and planned healthy meals, some of you even attempted swimming lessons in your paddling pools! Brilliant!

Here is a selection of photographs from across the week...

BBC Radio Berkshire competition

During HAL week, Michelle Jordan from BBC Radio Berkshire/Oxford set us all a challenge... to produce a 5minute radio show! Well we were overwhelmed by your fantastic audio clips and videos! Michelle has loved them all so much that she is going to play a selection of them live on her radio shows over two weeks! Not only has Michelle been playing some of these clips but she has also been speaking to some of our pupils live on air! So far Lydia W (Y2), Harry C (Y5), Sam and Lucy C (Y6, Y3)  and George and Olivia D (Y2, Y4) have all been live on BBC Radio Berkshire talking to Michelle about their brilliant creations! There are more to come next week and the winner of that exciting visit to the radio station will be revealed...

Here are some clips of some the children and parents talking to Michelle live on air.
