Blue Peter Badge

Congratulations to Anneka from Ocelot Class for winning her first Blue Peter badge! Anneka wrote about her Grandpa and drew a picture of him. She said how proud she was of him and how that generation and all they did should never be forgotten.

Well done Anneka!

Axolotl Art

Axolotl class have been learning about how to express emotion through abstract art.  We have learned different painting techniques and how to mix colours.  A great end to a busy term!

Axolotl flower dissection

Axolotl class had great fun dissecting flowers on Wednesday. They looked at each component part and understood the function of each.

Nightingales investigate!

 October 22nd 2020

We investigated materials to find out which ones were waterproof or non-absorbent.

We took two sugar cubes and a tray of coloured water.

We put one sugar cube into the water and it absorbed the water straight away.

We put a piece of material on top of the first sugar cube and then another sugar cube on top of that. If the water travelled through the second cube, we knew that it was an absorbent material.

It the water didn’t travel through the second cube, we knew it was a waterproof material.

We discovered the kitchen towel was most absorbent and the plastic and the foil were most waterproof.

Now we want to know if a material can be both waterproof and absorbent.

Abstract Art

Today, the Pine Martens explored abstract art and how to create fabulous interesting marks with just a paint brush.

Here are the Pine Martens painting to the Flight of the Valkyries by Wagner - look at their fabulous colours and marks!

The Pine Martens created observational drawings of objects that are particularly special to them. They then learned how to "abstract" them and created these amazing pictures. We think they're fab! Hope you love them too!

Street Tag

Well done to everyone who has downloaded the Street Tag App and has begun to collect points for our school! At the end of week 1 we have topped our local leaderboard, which is amazing!

If you haven’t yet downloaded the app, it is very simple and free. Download from Google Play or the App Store, register, scan our school QR code (sent out to parents via email) and you are ready to go! As you walk / scoot / cycle around the village you can open the app and collect Street Tag points. The school topping the leaderboard at Christmas will receive money for their PTA!

Year 3&4 Sports Event

During this week, Year 34 have taken part in a mini Sports Day as an end to their athletics unit of work. We were all very impressed with the sports values which the children demonstrated during the afternoon sessions. These include sportsmanship, resilience, teamwork, discipline, and enjoyment. The children worked in a carousel to take part in 16 different activities, very similar to our usual sports day format. We were saddened that we were unable to invite friends and family along to this event, but hope that the children enjoyed taking part.

The results were very close with only a few points between the houses. In first place was Pudmore, with Sandfield and Iddmead in joint second and finally Buckland. A huge well done to all of the children who took part in the event!
