Year 3&4 at the Earth Trust

Firstly, we went on the bus to Earth Trust. We used long nets to go pond dipping. We found lots of insects including water boatmen, tadpoles, dragonfly nymphs and leeches. Then we went on a walk to the lock and weir. It was very loud and splashing everywhere. We enjoyed looking at the sheep too! The final activity involved sketching the view from Wittenham Clumps. We also enjoyed eating our packed lunches. We loved doing the pond dipping and sketching but weren’t as keen on all of the walking.

CARE Ambassadors

Earlier this term we appointed some Year 6's to be CARE ambassadors. Their role is to promote our CARE values across the school in a number of different ways.

In Monday's assembly they introduced themselves to the rest of the school and explained how their first mission is to support children at lunchtime play. They have re-introduced the Buddy Bench and will be organising playtime activities for those children who may need a friend.
Next term they will be responsible for organising anti bullying week.

Exploring Hindu artefacts

The children in years 3 and 4 enjoyed exploring different Hindu artefacts today. They were amazed by the colours and diversity of the artefacts and had lots of interesting ideas about how they might be used.

Year 1 Garden News

Year 1 gardeners have been planting up bowls of hyacinths to sell at the school Christmas Fair.  It was their first time out in the garden and despite the drizzle, they all engaged really well with the task they were given.  Lots of enthusiasm, muddy hands & a zest to learn something new!

Market Researchers

Some of our Year 5&6 children took part in a market research session to try out new fruit drinks. They were fantastic at answering questions and had very strong opinions on plastic straws vs paper ones.

Year 5/6 Tribal Dance

The children in Year 5/6 have been making cross curricular links between PE and their Topic learning this afternoon. The children looked at tribes, who live in the rainforest and then choreographed their own Tribal Dances.
It was fantastic to see how they interpreted their learning in different ways and worked together as a 'Tribal Group'.
They eventually performed their dance to the rest of the year group wearing the headdresses that they had made in art and with full tribal face paint!

Children's Air Ambulance

This morning Anna and Mandy came into assembly to talk to the children about the Children's Air Ambulance - a very special air ambulance service solely for children. There are only 2 of these currently and one is based in Oxford and it was inspiring to hear about the essential job they do saving over 400 lives since they started. This service relies entirely on donations so it would be great to support them if we can this year.
Watch out for more information on how to join "the crew"  see childrensairambulance.org/thecrew
Hopefully we will soon be able to raise some money for them through donating unwanted clothing for their shop in Abingdon.

Art Club

This week, we changed from the difficult technicalities of perspective to pure freedom of colour using oil pastels. Hope you enjoy the results!
