Welcome to our school blog. Here we will show you some of the things we have been getting up to at Cholsey Primary School. We would love to hear your comments (note that these may not appear immediately)

On Tuesday morning, year 2 went on a walk around the village. For KS1 ‘Our Wonderful World’ topic is based on our local area and it was time to get out and see it! The children had maps of the village on which they had to track the route we walked and draw the symbols on it that we found. As we walked, we took note of place names, buildings that had special symbols on the map and the type of ground we were walking on. These were then all identified on the map to make sure we knew where we were. We were all really impressed at how the children transferred the knowledge they had learnt about maps in the classroom in to practical map reading skills. Well done year 2!
We were very excited to welcome Maggie Kaipah-Milne on Tuesday as part of our learning during Black History Month, which takes place throughout October. Maggie joined Cholsey Primary School as a pupil in 1968 after moving from Malawi to Cholsey and she and her brother were the first black children at the school. Maggie has recently written her memoirs and one chapter is about her time at Cholsey School, which she remembers very fondly. She recited a poem about her connection with both Malawi and England and read out parts of her book. The children were fascinated and had well-thought out questions to ask her. She came with her friend, Rosalie, who also used to attend Cholsey Primary School.
A huge thank you to everyone who donated items for the Cholsey Volunteer Group to distribute to those households who need them. Jane from the volunteer group came to pick up the donations today and they filled up an entire car.
The children in Year 5/6 have been taking part in the Junior Active Leaders course. The course involved teaching them how to lead younger children in playground games, how to risk assess and first aid. At the end of the course the children were assessed in teaching KS1 children and received a certificate, badge and report from the course leader, Amanda. We are so proud of how well all the children did and can’t wait to see them putting their skills into action at playtimes!
It was lovely to hear singing from Years 1 and 2 today and then some of our wind musicians played us into assembly. It was wonderful to hear them play and see how much they have progressed in recent months.
