On Tuesday morning, year 2 went on a walk around the village. For KS1 ‘Our Wonderful World’ topic is based on our local area and it was time to get out and see it! The children had maps of the village on which they had to track the route we walked and draw the symbols on it that we found. As we walked, we took note of place names, buildings that had special symbols on the map and the type of ground we were walking on. These were then all identified on the map to make sure we knew where we were. We were all really impressed at how the children transferred the knowledge they had learnt about maps in the classroom in to practical map reading skills. Well done year 2!
